A sterling silver gentleman's drinking flask with a hand engraved fly fishing scene. This handsome piece was made by American silversmiths Frank M. Whiting & Company. The Whiting was company was founded in 1878 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts by the son of William Whiting, (the founder of the Whiting Manufacturing Co), and became well known for manufacturing a variety of different sterling silver products. The company has had numerous name changes throughout its history, such as the F.M. Whiting & Co. in 1878, F.M. Whiting in 1891, and the F.M. Whiting Co. in 1895 and in 1905 they were bought by Gorham. It finally ceased making silver under the Whiting name in 1926. The front of the flask has a scene of two fishermen who look very happy with their catch of a very large salmon. The lid unscrews fully, but has a silver chain attached to the body in order for the lid not to be dropped into any fast moving stream. The body has also been ergonomically designed with three ridges along a tampered body that allows it to fit well in the hand. The flask is stamped with the Whiting logo, Sterling and the individual piece registration number of 335. Made in America, circa 1895.
